If you’re staying multiple days at The Jonathan Pitney House, you might want to wander into Atlantic City, it is just 12 miles from The Jonathan Pitney House. And, it has a lot of fun, and interesting things to do…some of them you may have never even heard of!
The first and most likely the most obvious is the Atlantic City Boardwalk:
The Atlantic City Boardwalk is the granddaddy of all boardwalks! Dating from 1870, Forbes Traveler.com rates it among the top of the “Top 10 American Boardwalks.” Lined with dining, gambling, nightlife and a wealth of fun family attractions (and some not-so-family friendly), this miles-long deck boasts some of the poshest hotel casinos in the world, including Caesar’s and the Trump Taj Mahal, as well as some kitschy tourist draws such as the famed Boardwalk Rolling Chairs. You can park at one of the many casino’s along the boardwalk or if your luck find some parking on the street.
Next, try out the Atlantic City Beaches:
Atlantic City, New Jersey is said to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the U.S. Dr. Jonathan Pitney used to travel the east coast to come to Atlantic City just to breathe in the fresh salt water and be apart of the beauty. In fact, the beaches in AC is what sparked his passion for the city and the reason he decided to begin the railroad system and move to Absecon. Today, the beaches are well kept and have easy accessible parking.
Nearby:
Walking distance from Showboat Casino, Absecon Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey and the third tallest in the United States, towers 171 feet over the north end of Absecon Island. Built in 1857, it’s the oldest lighthouse in the country. Visitors can explore the museum and gift shop or brave the 228 steps to the top for a truly fabulous view of the Atlantic City sky line.
